Dab on non-oily nail polish remover with a cotton ball. Do not get it on carpet backing. Cover the area with a clean towel or a thick pad of paper towels. Press down with the heel of your hand. Blot up as much as possible with a tissue. Then test the effect of nonoily nail polish remover on an inconspicuous part of the carpet. If there are no ill effects to the carpet pile, apply the nail polish remover with an eye dropper or a nonsilver spoon, blotting immediately after each application. Always use nonoily polish remover. If regular nail polisher remover does not work, buy straight acetone at a beauty supply store , pretest again, and apply as directed above. just a bit of acetone (Vranish remover). Test it on a hiden spot before putting it on. YOu don't want a big discolored spot on your carpet. Good luck.
if it is nylon carpet believe it or not the answer is nail varnish remover. however if it is wool try putting say a packet of frozen peas on it then after a while pick or peel off
