Does nail varnish ruin your nails over time?

because i was wearing it for ages and i have stopped now because my nails don't look to healthy? :SDoes nail varnish ruin your nails over time?
Yes - my nails are horrible because I never used to use a base coat. They have a strange yellow tint to them now.


But its getting better now I'm using a base coat, It's gradually turning back to normal.


Also I am not painting my nails as often, and giving them a good buff every week :-)Does nail varnish ruin your nails over time?
No they don't.


The whole ';Your nails wont be able to breath!'; thing is a myth. Nails are made of keratin, and keratin don't have lungs. Therefore, they don't breath.





The only reason your nails don't look healthy is because your polish stained your nails. A good quality base coat will prevent some staining, but you can't prevent it completely, especially if you're wearing dark colours.





If you're worried about your stained nails, go for lighter colours like pink and beige. Otherwise, you can go with gels which will last longer, and wont stain your nails.

i've been told that if you're gonna wear nail varnish, you should only keep it on for 3 days cus after that your nails start to die cus they need air. (they suffocate when they're covered)





So what would probably be best, if you like wearing nail varnish a lot, wear it for about 3 days, then take it of and leave them for 1-2 days then re-aply it :)

You probably need to give them a good buffing - just done mine actually, cos I seem to be wearing a lot of very dark polish lately.





And also make sure you wear a good base coat under polish - Sally Hansen stuff is very good - I wear the Maximum Growth under mine and add a coat a day.





And use a gentle polish remover.
I'm not a specialist, but it happened to me too - after wearing dark varnish for a few months my nails had a tinge of yellow to them. Now they're back to normal, but haven't worn varnish for months.
varnish can weaken the surface of the nails so that they peel and split. This can happen after using up only one bottle with regular varnishing.
Just get a good base , make sure you use a decent nail polish othewise, apparently, your nails go yellow .

Over time they make turn a yellow tint...they will go back to normal in a while!!!
